Nintendo Switch Is Getting A Different Version of 'FIFA 18'

This will be the second year EA Sports uses the Frostbite Engine to develop FIFA, and we'll also see the next chapter to The Journey story mode. Both pieces of info are cause for optimism for FIFA gamers unless you'd planned on playing the game on your Nintendo Switch.

Switch owners are getting a different version of FIFA and theirs will not be running on the Frostbite Engine nor will it have Journey mode.  In fact, it won't even be called FIFA 18. Instead, it's FIFA on the Nintendo Switch.

That's potentially a huge blow to the sales of the game on the Switch unless of course fans are enamored with the portability.

No other system offers fans an opportunity to play the beloved series on the go,
and as we can see from sports gamers such as Hit The Pass' Rich Grisham, some fans are willing to accept a downgraded version because they will be treated to a portable pitch.

FIFA 18 on Switch is a great thing. So what if it's not totally on par with PS4/Xbox One versions? It's a portable FIFA. That's fantastic.

Grisham's take is an understandable one. FIFA is the perfect sports game to play on a plane, bus or train. The thought of it is exciting. That said, I'm not sure I'm OK with EA and Nintendo signing off on a product that is clearly subpar when compared to the version that will launch for rival systems.

Something about that just seems insane.

I liked FIFA 17 a lot and The Journey was my favorite mode. As a person who rarely plays games away from home, I'm disenchanted. Without that experience and comparable visuals, it's hard to find the motivation to play FIFA on the Nintendo Switch. Hopefully, the Switch version will offer some unique modes that the PS4, XB1, and PC aren't offering.

That would be the lesser version's only saving grace.
