The social-cultural Igbo
organisation (Ohaneze Ndigbo) which has gained for itself worldwide reputation
for her cape-in-hand system of approach in socio-political issues as it affects
her citizens are at it again.
I as well as fellow well-meaning country
men woke up on the early hours of 30th April,2017 to find on one of the
national dailies(Punch Newspaper) how Ohaneze group intend visiting the
IPOB/Radio Biafra leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The thought of visiting the IPOB leader
does not tickle my fancy, but what I found totally distasteful and highly
hypocritical is the idea by elements of this same group planning to visit the
IPOB leader in order to convince him to accept restructuring as the common
ground for all instead of outright restoration of our great Nation Biafra.
In
most recent times, political observers have continued to watch as the clamour
for restructuring among Igbo elites becomes louder by the day even
when it is
in total negation of the will of the proletarian majority. We have heard the
likes of Obi of Onitsha and most recently Ken Nnamani rooting for a
restructured Nigeria. But what proponents of restructuring?
Just like those who championed the "CHANGE
MANTRA" without being explicit on what the said change actually implies.
The restructurers have started exactly on the same footing. It is an unhidden
truth that the socio-cultural organisation( Ohaneze Ndigbo) have done next to
nothing in helping to accelerate this Igbo agenda. Their very presence in any
socio-political gathering tends to project the direct opposite of what the
organisers may actually wish for Ndigbo.
Ohaneze Ndigbo should understand that even
if restructuring entails a reversal to regionalisation when the Kano riot
(1953) and Jos riot of (1945) took place. Lives and properties of Ndigbo were
the primary target. The central government as well as the regional government
could not do anything meaningful to ensure the safety of lives and properties
of Ndigbo.
There were issues of
collaboration between the rioters and the government. This same scenario has
continued down to this day.
One is tempted to ask, how do we
restructure back Bakassi into Nigeria? How do we restructure back the already
polluted land and waterways of Ogoni kingdom? How do we restructure back oil
into the dry-up wells of Olobori? How do we restructure back the lives of those
young men and old men who were massacred in Asaba(1767) , Ameke-Item (1967),
Oji River, Aba (Susan Mosids account for French press agency) Calabar (1968),
Igweocha (1968) and others? .
How do we restructure back our properties
that were declared abandoned in every part of Nigeria? How do we restructure
our million in life savings that was stolen from us in whose place we were
given just 20 pounds? How do we restructure back the lives of over 3.5 million
Biafrans most of whom were defenseless mothers and helpless children who were
starved to death? How do we restructure back the lives of those citizens who
were maliciously gunned down by the blood-sucking Nigerian soldiers? How do we
restructure back lives lost during pogrom of 1966?
Ohaneze Ndigbo should stop making a
mockery of themselves. They have lost their relevance as long as the Igbo Nation
is concerned. They have only but themselves to blame after many years of
sell-out just for crumble off the table of Northern oligarchs. The Igbo will
no-longer play on their commonwealth for self-enrichment.
The quest for a Biafra Nation is as
sacrosanct as the second coming of messiah. The Igbo Nation understands that
the restoration of the kingdom of God(Chukwu Okike Abiama) on earth is far
greater and most certainly more rewarding than a regionally restricted Igboman
in a restructured Nigeria.
It is totally not in my place as a writer
to tell the IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu whether or not to entertain the
annoying presence of these jesters. But it is imperative that I note herein
that these persons (Ohaneze Ndigbo) have a contaminating property embedded in
their nature and have this foul odour that follows them about. It is my wish
that when the Leader deals with them, he should have his long spoon very handy.
God Bless Mazi Nnamdi
